Turning an Online Video into a Learning Object

Docebo allows you to use videos from other websites as learning objects in courses. You can create video learning objects from certain websites via URL, rather than uploading a file into the LMS.

This feature is available only for Docebo version 6.9.

These learning objects are tracked like regular videos in the platform, meaning a Super Administrator can see if a learner did not finish watching the video.

Please note: The video can only be tracked if the learner watches it on the LMS. If the learner watches the video on another site (such as YouTube), this cannot be tracked.

You can embed videos via URL from the following sites:

You can add these videos directly into courses, or from the Central Learning Object Repository.

Adding the Video into the CLOR

To start, log into the platform as the Super Administrator and access the CLOR by pressing the subitem in the Admin Menu.

To upload a video learning object, select the Add Training Material button, then select Video from drop down menu.

Then, add the video’s URL in the corresponding text box.

Next, add the title and description of the video. You can edit the description text as desired.

Finally, move to the Additional Info tab to add a short description of the video as well as a thumbnail. Like other learning objects, you can choose from a selection of preloaded thumbnails, or upload your own.

You can also add this type of video learning object directly into a course. To do so, begin by scrolling your mouse over the gears icon in the left sidebar to access the Adminmenu, then press the Courses subitem from the E-Learning section in the first column.
